Azerbaijan rules out sending forces to Gaza: “Arab problems should be resolved by Arab states”
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said Monday that Azerbaijan will not take part in any international stabilization force planned for Gaza Strip.
In an interview with local television, Aliyev cited past grievances, saying that despite Azerbaijan’s sympathy for Palestinian statehood, “we were left alone in our hardest moments, and no one — including the Palestinians — stood by us.” He added that while Baku has held dialogue with the administration of Donald Trump and submitted detailed questions about the proposed force, its position remains unchanged: Azerbaijan will not deploy troops beyond its borders, and “Arab problems should be resolved by Arab states.”
The statement underscores Azerbaijan’s close strategic ties with Israel. Baku supplies around half of Israel’s oil imports and has maintained strong relations throughout the Gaza war, avoiding harsh criticism and preventing anti-Israel protests at home.
