After Israel-backed prize nomination failed, Venezuela’s opposition leader gifts Trump her nobel peace prize
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado presented President Donald Trump with her Nobel Peace Prize at a White House meeting yesterday, in what the dedication text describes as a personal symbol of gratitude on behalf of the Venezuelan people for Trump’s “principled and decisive action to secure a free Venezuela.” Though the prize itself is not transferable, Trump called it “a wonderful gesture of mutual respect” in a post on Truth Social.
In July 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented Trump with a letter nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in the Middle East — a nomination that missed the end of January deadline. Machado was announced Nobel Peace Prize winner in October 2025 for her work to promote democracy in Venezuela.
She was congratulated by Netanyahu in a phone call later that month, after which Machado reflected on X: “It’s no surprise that the Iranian regime—a key supporter of the Maduro regime in Venezuela—also backs terrorist organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis. This alignment underscores the global nature of the struggle between freedom and authoritarianism.”
