4.6-magnitude earthquake east of Tehran sparks seismic concerns

Iran was struck by a 4.6-magnitude earthquake overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the country’s National Seismological Center.

In the city of Pardis, northeast of Tehran, residents felt a series of nine tremors. The strongest quake, measuring 4.6 in magnitude, struck at a depth of 10 kilometers, data showed.

Iranian media reported heightened fear among experts and residents alike that the capital city may be at growing risk of an earthquake.

Iran is located in a seismically active area between the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates, making the country prone to earthquakes.
