1,000 US Paratroopers set to deploy to Middle East in coming days
CNN confirmed earlier reports that around 1,000 US soldiers with the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division are expected to be sent to the Middle East in the coming days.
The 82nd is the US Army’s only division that can deploy anywhere in the world in 18 hours, maintaining an Immediate Response Force (IRF) capability.
It has taken part in the invasion of Normandy in 1944, and seen combat in Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as in operations against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
