Mossad exposes Iranian general behind attacks on Jewish targets across Western nations
The Israeli intelligence agency Mossad announced on Sunday that senior Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) official Sardar Ammar orchestrated multiple attempted attacks on Jewish and Israeli targets in Australia, Germany, Greece, and other countries between 2024 and 2025.
Mossad announced in a statement released by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem that it is “exposing for the first time” an international network that is ultimately commanded by Esmail Qaani, head of the IRGC’s Quds Force.
Mossad announced that the network mechanism that Ammar operated “was directly responsible for the attempted attacks revealed in Greece, Australia, and Germany over the past year,” adding that Tehran aimed to hit “Israeli and Jewish targets in Israel and abroad.” However, multiple exposures reportedly resulted in “a wave of arrests.”
Mossad explained that the Iranian-led network is designed to operate as “terror without Iranian fingerprints, high compartmentalization, recruitment of foreigners, use of criminals, and covert communications.” The Mossad agency stressed that “thanks to intensive activity with partners in Israel and abroad, dozens of attack tracks were thwarted, saving many lives.”
Mossad further explained that Tehran wanted to harm the Jewish state and its interests worldwide “by harming innocents around the globe while maintaining deniability.” The agency added that the exposure “strips Iran of its space for denial, removes its immunity, and exacts heavy diplomatic costs.”
The Iranian regime has already paid a heavy diplomatic price for its exposed international terrorist networks. In July, the German government summoned the Iranian envoy Majid Nili Ahmadabadi after local authorities arrested a Danish citizen who was reportedly spying on Jewish and Israeli sites in Berlin on behalf of Tehran. German authorities believe that Iranian intelligence was preparing terrorist attacks on German soil.
In August, Australia announced that it would expel the Iranian ambassador due to Iranian-led terrorist plots against Jews in Australia.
The Australian premier Anthony Albanese accused Tehran of "extraordinary and dangerous acts of aggression" and seeking to "undermine Australian cohesion."
"The Australian people want two things. They want killing in the Middle East to stop, and they don't want conflict in the Middle East brought here. Iran has sought to do just that," Albanese announced. "They have sought to harm and terrorize Jewish Australians and sow hatred and division in our community."
Last year, Greek police arrested Iranian and Afghani citizens who were accused of arson terrorist attacks on a synagogue in Athens and an Israeli-owned hotel in the country. In 2023, Greek authorities detained two Pakistani citizens who were reportedly part of an Iranian plot to attack Jewish and Israeli sites in the Greek capital.
Last month, a senior Middle Eastern intelligence source revealed that 45 Israeli embassies worldwide have been targeted since the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023, attack. The Iranian regime and its terrorist proxy Hezbollah are believed to be behind the majority of the attacks on Israeli diplomatic institutions.
In October 2024, a European report revealed that the Iranian regime has been employing criminals to target Jews and Israelis across Europe.
The Swedish security service SÄPO also revealed that the Iranian regime has been targeting Iranian dissidents who reside in Western countries.
“Iran has previously used violence in other countries in Europe with the aim of silencing critical voices and perceived threats to its own regime,” Säpo warned. “To carry out these security-threatening activities, the Iranian regime has on occasion made use of criminal networks."
