Israeli communications satellite 'Dror 1' launches into space

The Israeli communications satellite "Dror 1," whose development was first announced about five and a half years ago, was launched into space today (Sunday) by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and SpaceX. The satellite was launched for a mission expected to last around 15 years, aimed at providing communications services for Israel’s security bodies.
The satellite incorporates advanced digital technologies, with an emphasis on those made in Israel, such as a state-of-the-art digital communications payload. It also features "smartphone-in-space" capabilities, allowing for flexible communications throughout the mission’s duration.

Israel Aerospace Industries stated: “As Israel’s national space house, IAI has led the country’s space program since the 1980s, when the first observation satellite, Ofek 1, was launched. The company has also developed, produced, and launched additional communication and observation satellites for scientific, civilian, and national missions – both in Israel and around the world.”
It was noted that once the Dror 1 satellite is placed into orbit around Earth, IAI engineers will carry out a series of tests to ensure it is functioning properly.
