Two Jewish Israelis arrested on suspicion of spying for Iran

Two Jewish Israelis suspected of conducting espionage for the Iranian government were arrested on Sunday.
“Security forces from the Shin Bet and the YAMAM counter-terrorism unit jointly operated and detained the two, following a Lahav 433 investigation,” the Jerusalem Post reported.
Other than the fact that the two suspects are Jewish Israelis, no other information was publicized about the suspects’ identities or activities, due to the investigation being placed under a gag order.
The arrests were made known in a statement put out by the Israeli Police and Shin Bet, who said Iran would “exploit the information” passed on by the suspects “in order to harm Israel.”
“With a campaign against Iran in full swing, missile fire at population centers and strategic locations in Israel, we are witnessing the damage and danger posed by cooperating with the Iranian enemy,” the statement said.
Since Oct. 7, 2023, a number of Israelis suspected of working for Iran have been arrested for similar suspected crimes, though not many have been sentenced.
“In most cases, Israelis recruited by Iranian handlers began by carrying out small, innocuous tasks that gradually grew into more serious offenses, like intelligence gathering and even assassination plots,” the Times of Israel reported.
