Israeli general’s Oct 7 story captivates Toronto: Noam Tibon film wins audience award

The film "The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue," which tells the story of Major General (res.) Noam Tibon’s mission to save his son and granddaughters on Oct. 7, 2023, won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival Sunday.
Following the win, Noam Tibon told Kan Reshet Bet, “We won a very prestigious award. The director called to tell me, and I want to say a big thank you to the Jewish community in Canada. We received a warm embrace from them and also from the Israelis. The film was removed from the festival for an unworthy reason – but thanks to them, it was brought back. The film speaks to the Israeli truth. It shows the murder, the massacre – and the Israeli truth won.”
The film made headlines last month after the Toronto festival initially canceled its screening, citing claims that the film contained footage that violated the copyright of Hamas terrorists who carried out the Oct. 7 massacre. Shortly afterward, the festival organizers reversed their decision, and the film was screened this past Wednesday.
The film’s director, Barry Avrich, as well as Noam Tibon and his wife Gali Mir-Tibon, were greeted with applause both before and after the screening, which took place in a fully packed auditorium. The screening occurred without any major incidents. Ticket holders entered the venue under significant police security, which outnumbered a vocal group of protesters. Security at the entrance was stricter than usual, and the thorough checks caused a 15-minute delay in the start of the screening.
