A member of the Saudi royal family told Kan News that in recent weeks Riyadh has been sending messages to Israel urging it not to undermine the rule of Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, arguing that he has no interest in any conflict with Israel – as reported Saturday evening on “News of the Weekend” on Kan 11.

According to the source, Al-Sharaa should be given an opportunity to govern Syria, which could help reduce Iran’s influence in the country. He added that Saudi Arabia is interested in achieving regional peace, and that Al-Sharaa’s leadership would support that objective.

As for claims that Al-Sharaa is a radical jihadist, the source dismissed them as “empty words.”

Moreover, Riyadh reportedly disapproved of recent Israeli strikes on government sites in Damascus, which came in response to the violent unrest in the Druze Mountain region. While the Saudis understand Israel's concerns, they said they failed to grasp the purpose of Israel’s actions.

Additionally, alongside the unrest in the Druze region, a Saudi-Syrian investment forum was held in Damascus this week – during which Riyadh pledged to invest over $6 billion in Syria.
