Israeli President Herzog marks 600 days of Gaza War, says now is time to act and bring home all the hostages

Israeli President Isaac Herzog delivered a solemn and impassioned address at the Sderot Conference in Beersheva, marking 600 days since the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks and the beginning of the war that followed.
"On that accursed day – the result of a terrible blindness, one of the greatest failures we have ever known – murderous, inhuman terrorists, human monsters, armed to their teeth, invaded our homes, our towns, our communities, rampaged and slaughtered us," Herzog declared, recalling the horror that ignited Israel's war with Hamas.
At the center of his speech was a forceful call to bring the remaining hostages home. “This is a critical moment in our history as a people,” he said. “This is the moment to initiate, to dare, to take step after step, to act in every possible way to bring them home, every last one of them.”
Herzog also underscored the importance of Israeli moral conduct, stating, “We know how moral our sons and daughters are… our human, Israeli, and Jewish values stir in us sorrow – genuine sorrow – for every innocent person who suffers and is harmed.”
He repeated his demand for an independent state commission of inquiry into the failures that led to the war.
“I call on all involved to sit down together, resolve the crisis, and launch the investigation,” Herzog said.
In a direct rebuke of political extremism, Herzog warned, “The people of Israel have simply had enough. Fed up with the rotten culture of endless internal struggles… Slinging mud at the IDF and its commanders is no path to a solution… and calls for refusal, for rebellion, or for breaking the law… are, under no circumstances, the way to a solution.”
