Israel will keep ‘close watch’ on Iran, Mossad chief Barnea threatens after end of war

Following the end of the war against Iran, the director of Israel’s highly secretive intelligence agency, Mossad, gave a rare public appearance to praise his forces for their role in the war, while giving a clear warning to the ayatollah regime.

“We will continue to keep close watch over all of Iran’s projects, which we know in the most thorough way. We will be there, just as we have been until now,” David Barnea said.

“The Iranian threat, which loomed over our security for decades, has been significantly neutralized thanks to an exceptional collaboration between the IDF, which led the campaign, and the Mossad, which operated alongside it, together with the support of our ally, the United States,” Barnea added.

The decade-long work of the Mossad in Iran paid off during the war, with the agency revealing its critical part in crippling Iran’s strike capabilities amid the opening blows of the war.

He noted that “thanks to precise intelligence, advanced technologies, and operational capabilities beyond imagination, we helped the Air Force strike Iran’s nuclear project, establish air superiority in Iranian skies, and reduce the missile threat – thereby ensuring the security of Israel’s citizens.”

According to media reports, the Mossad operated hundreds of agents on Iranian territory at the start of the war.

The already-paranoid regime reacted by arresting hundreds of people during the war and executing three purported Mossad agents.

The Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANA) reported that at least 823 Iranians have been arrested on security charges since the start of the war.

The head of the Iranian judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, announced this week that trials over “espionage and collaboration with Israel” would be sped up.

The regime is particularly focusing its efforts on the country’s ethnical minorities. The three men executed as suspected Mossad agents were reportedly ethnic Kurds, and the regime has often accused Israel of working with Kurdish, Azeri, and Baluchi nationalists and separatists.

Iran’s authorities are highly focused on the threat of internal unrest, particularly in Kurdish areas, one senior Iranian security official and two other senior officials told Reuters.

The security forces reinforced troops stationed at the borders with Pakistan, Iraq, and Azerbaijan to stop “terrorist” infiltration, one of the officials said.

Several Kurdish activists and local politicians told Reuters that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) had sent troops to the Kurdish provinces in Iran, searched house-to-house for suspects and arms, and set up checkpoints with physical and checks of their phones and documents.

Despite the success of Israel’s campaign in Iran, Barnea emphasized that many threats remain, highlighting the agency’s efforts to return the Israeli hostages from Gaza.

“The Mossad will persist with determination in monitoring, overseeing, and acting to thwart the threats against us, as we have always done for the State of Israel and its citizens.”

Barnea closed by quoting from Proverbs 11:14, “Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."
