Indian Air Force to receive fighter jet equipped with Israeli tech

Later this month, the Indian Air Force will receive a new fighter jet known as the HAL Tejas, which is equipped with Israeli technology.
Manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., the HAL Tejas utilizes an Israeli-designed radar system.
“The Tejas is equipped with AESA (active electronic scanned array) technology made by Elta, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries, replacing an earlier Israeli radar,” The Jerusalem Post reported.
The report notes that “Elta is also providing an electronic warfare system.”
Two other Israeli defense technology companies also designed technology to be utilized in the aircraft.
HAL Tejas will use the Derby missiles designed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, an Israeli company founded the same year the modern state of Israel was founded.
The helmet-mounted sights to be utilized by the pilots were designed by Elbit Systems Ltd.
Considering the extensive use of Israeli technology in the new Indian fighter jets, the Jerusalem Post reported that “the Tejas will be more ‘Israeli’ than the Israeli Air Force’s own jets, which are equipped with American radars due to a US veto on the installation of Israeli radars.”
The reception of the new fighter jet comes after India recently engaged in military conflict with Pakistan, sparked by a terrorist attack in Kashmir which India accused Pakistan of supporting.
In a recent interview with POLITICO, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar warned Pakistan that any similar incidents will warrant further military actions.
“Our message to them is that if you continue to do the kind of barbaric acts which they did in April, then there is going to be retribution, and that retribution will be against the terrorist organizations and the terrorist leadership,” he said. “If they are deep in Pakistan, we will go deep into Pakistan.”
