US to ceasefire guarantor states: Hamas' plans to harm Gaza residents would be a violation of agreement

The U.S. State Department informed the countries guaranteeing the Gaza ceasefire agreement that there are “credible reports indicating an expected violation of the ceasefire by Hamas against Gaza residents.”
In a statement released overnight (Sunday), the State Department said that Hamas’ planned attack against Palestinian civilians would constitute a direct violation of the ceasefire agreement and would significantly undermine the progress achieved.
The statement further said that the guarantor states are demanding that Hamas uphold its commitment to the agreement.
“If Hamas carries out the attack, steps will be taken to protect Gaza’s residents and to maintain the ceasefire,” the statement read.
The State Department also emphasized that the United States and the guarantor states are determined to ensure the safety of Gaza’s residents, preserve calm, and promote peace in Gaza and the region.
In the days since the ceasefire came into effect, reports from the Strip indicate severe violence and executions carried out by Hamas members against their opponents in the territory. Among other things, there have been reports of public executions of members of armed militias and clans fighting against the organization.
