UK Royal Navy seizes illegal shipment of Iranian weapons in Gulf of Oman
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom seized an illegal weapons shipment in the Gulf of Oman.
The British operation was supported by U.S. forces.
The seized weapons contained anti-tank missiles and medium-range missile components from Iran.
“This is the seventh illegal weapon or drug interdiction in the last three months and yet another example of Iran’s increasing malign maritime activity across the region,” said U.S. Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command.
The seizure took place along a route historically used to traffic weapons unlawfully to Yemen, according to CENTCOM.
