The window of the Israeli Supreme Court was shattered by a non-lethal firearm, such as an air gun, according to a statement issued Saturday evening by the court administration. The statement declared that the incident represents a “red line that harms the values of democracy.”

The window was apparently smashed during a pro-government demonstration held at the site last Thursday, which was attended by ministers and members of the Knesset.

Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who was present at the protest, addressed the incident in an interview with Ayala Hasson on Kan News and said: “I strongly condemn [the act].”

However, Levin added, “The terrible selective enforcement happening here regarding incitement and attacks on public officials will eventually lead to great disasters.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “I strongly condemn all forms of violence of any kind, especially against members of the government authorities. I call on public leaders and law enforcement to strongly condemn and act decisively against all manifestations of violence and incitement, without exception.”

MK Gilad Kariv (The Democrats) addressed the incident in a letter to the chairman of the National Security Committee, MK Tzvika Fogel, writing, “I expect the chair of the National Security Committee to immediately convene a closed-door session with senior officials from the Shin Bet, the police, and the court security service in order to receive a full briefing on the threat landscape facing Israeli judges from nationalist and Kahanist elements.”

Opposition leader Yair Lapid commented on the incident, saying: “The government organized the protest during which the Supreme Court window was smashed. This incident is a direct result of their incitement. I warned over a month ago—if the Prime Minister doesn’t stop this, it will end in political murder.”
