A scholarship fund in memory of Yaron Lischinsky has been created to help young Israeli immigrants realize their scholastic dreams, just as Yaron did, according to a press release on Monday.

The scholarship fund, established by the Society for Advancement of Education, Jerusalem, together with the Mae Boyar High School and in collaboration with Yaron's parents, will grant scholarships of up to $40,000 annually to young olim (new immigrants) studying at the Boyar High School.

Yaron, the brother of Hanan Lischinsky – Newsdesk Manager for ALL ISRAEL NEWS – made aliyah with his family at the age of 16. He attended Boyar High School and graduated in 2013 before going on to serve in the IDF.

"Yaron came to Boyar in 11th grade as a new immigrant from Germany and completed his studies with great success,” said Dafna Menashe Baruch, Principal of the High School.

“He was a brilliant and sensitive student, known for his sense of responsibility, belonging, and social involvement. As a talented athlete, he served as the captain of Boyar’s soccer team.”

“After his military service, Yaron chose to dedicate his life to diplomacy and building bridges between nations. His tragic and untimely death – of such a promising young man with a bright future – was a heavy blow to the educational staff and to me personally,” she added.

“The memorial fund established in his name seeks to carry on his legacy by supporting young immigrants at Boyar High School, so they too can dream, grow, and make an impact – just as Yaron did."

Lischinsky went on to gain a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the Hebrew University and a master’s degree in Government, Diplomacy and Strategy from Reichman University. He began work as a research assistant on Middle East and North Africa affairs in the political department of the Israeli Embassy in Washington in 2022.

It was there in Washington, as Lischinsky was serving as a diplomat, that he was murdered, together with his partner Sarah Milgrim. The two were set to travel to Jerusalem where Yaron was planning to propose next to the Western Wall, but a terrorist attacked them shouting “Free Palestine” as he fired.

At his funeral, Lischinsky was eulogised as having been a man of excellence and diligence, who took his education extremely seriously. Now this scholarship fund will support other young olim pursue their studies and work towards their ambitions while honoring the memory of Lischinsky – a man dedicated to peace and progress.

His friend, Mariam Wahba, research analyst at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said, “He didn’t just want to understand the world. He wanted to mend it. Quietly and gently. Thoughtfully. Steadily. May his memory be a blessing.”

A crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the fund has recently been launched on the Jgive site.
