LISTEN: CAMERA’s Adam Levick criticizes media for failures in Gaza War coverage

In a wide-ranging interview, Adam Levick with the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA) joined Christian journalist Paul Calvert to discuss what he views as serious breakdowns in ethical media coverage of the Gaza war and its consequences for Israel and global peace and truth.
Levick, who has monitored the British media for over a decade, pointed to the widespread failure of journalists to vet information, particularly when quoting casualty figures from the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry.
“There’s literally no way to verify that,” he said. “Of course, this is Hamas, a terrorist group proscribed in the UK in full, who launched the worst anti-Semitic massacre since the Holocaust on October 7, 2023.”
Levick called out major news outlets for embracing sensationalist narratives and often quoting statistics without revealing that the United Nations is merely repeating dubious figures provided by Hamas-controlled institutions. “It’s a cycle of misinformation and sometimes disinformation that misleads the news consumers that they’re trying to inform.”
CAMERA has taken on the challenge of pushing back on widely publicized images of supposedly starving children in Gaza, by revealing the underlying pre-existing health co-morbidities of the patients. For example, one child featured in the BBC was later found to have cystic fibrosis and had since improved after being transferred to an Israeli hospital – and there have been other cases like this.
Levick criticized media outlets for failing to perform basic due diligence.
“Do the work that your profession is supposed to be doing – very often we find due to laziness and due to the fact that they want clicks and due to the fact that they have a particular agenda that they want to promote – they don’t do due diligence,” he told Calvert.
The CAMERA author also addressed recent political developments, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s support for Palestinian statehood, warning that such a declaration sends a dangerous message. Levick characterized it as “rewarding terror” and called it a moral failure to acknowledge Hamas as the primary obstacle to peace.
A dual citizen who made aliyah (immigrated to Israel)16 years ago, Levick closed the conversation with a prayer for peace and the safe return of Israeli hostages.
