Hezbollah blasts Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan as ‘full of dangers,’ says Hamas accepted out of concern for 'Palestinian people'

Lebanese terror group careful not to directly criticize Hamas for 'accepting' US proposal

The leader of the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, condemned the plan for ending the Gaza War that was presented by U.S. President Trump last week, after Hamas responded with a partial acceptance of the proposal.

“Trump put forward a peace plan for Gaza, a plan full of dangers,” Qassam said in a televised speech.

“After the Arab states raised their objections, it was corrected and changed to become an Israeli plan to take control of Gaza by political means, to accomplish what it failed to carry out on the battlefield,” he charged.

“It is Israel's project, which it seeks to achieve through politics after failing to achieve it through military action, aggression, genocide and famine.”

After Qassem’s strong criticism of the plan, which could signal Hezbollah’s opposition to Hamas’ apparent decision to agree to the ceasefire, the organization sought to clarify and downplay the criticism in a second statement on the issue.

The Hamas response, the statement argued, “stems from their firm dedication to stopping the barbaric Israeli aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip,” and also emphasized “their insistence on the principles of the Palestinian cause and the preservation of the rights of the Palestinian people.”

In response to Trump’s proposal, Hamas issued a statement accepting certain elements, ignoring others, and calling for further negotiations. Trump has interpreted the response as a full acceptance.

Qassem’s speech was ostensibly focused on commemorating two Hezbollah commanders who were killed by Israel approximately one year ago, but included long sections focused on the Gaza War.

He warned that Israel would receive the hostages at the start of the ceasefire deal, and “by that, will strip Hamas of its bargaining chips, so what was the point of the war?”

“This is an Israeli plan dressed in American clothes,” Qassem continued, “Trump presented the plan at this time in order to pull Israel out of the difficulties it has found itself in because of the prolongation of the war.”

Qassem concluded, however, that he does not want to “intervene in these matters; Hamas and the [other Palestinian] factions are the ones who will discuss and decide according to what they see fit.”

At another point in his speech, the Hezbollah leader called to “confront the Greater Israel project,” echoing a conspiracy theory that claims Israel secretly intends to seize large parts of the Middle East based on a particular interpretation of biblical prophecies.

In August, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared to endorse this idea, drawing anger and widespread condemnation across the Arab world.

Qassem urged the whole region to oppose the alleged Israeli plan because, as he stated, “the project will reach him sooner or later, according to Israel's planning.”

He also praised the “Sumud” flotilla that was stopped by the Israeli Navy this week, claiming that it showed “how much Israel has become isolated and ostracized.”

“We know that the word ‘surrender’ is not in the Palestinian lexicon; it is impossible that the Palestinians and Hamas will surrender. ‘Gideon 1, 2, even 3’ will not be able to deprive the Palestinians of their rights in their struggle,” Qassem said.

On Sunday, the Houthis – Hezbollah’s allies in Yemen – welcomed Hamas’ response to Trump’s plan.

Mohammed Miftah, the acting prime minister of the Houthi terror group, said in an interview with the al-Masirah channel that Hamas had made a “positive, wise, and successful move, which strips Israel of all excuses to continue the killing in the Gaza Strip and proves Hamas's just and responsible aspiration to stop the war.”
