France, Egypt, and Jordan on Wednesday warned that Israel’s planned offensive – aimed at taking over Gaza City and, effectively, the entire Gaza Strip – would lead to disaster.

This followed several days of exchanges of diplomatic blows between Israel and France.

French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on 𝕏 that he had discussed the Israeli plans with King Abdullah II of Jordan and with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

“We share the same conviction: The military offensive in Gaza that Israel is preparing can only lead to disaster for both peoples and risks plunging the entire region into a cycle of permanent war,” Macron said.

Jordan and Egypt have repeatedly called on Israel to avert its looming offensive in Gaza and to accept the latest proposal for a ceasefire, to which Hamas has reportedly agreed.

During a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi urged, “Israel must agree and accept it, and the world must exert pressure so that Israel agrees to the proposal – so that this disaster will stop, so that the killing will stop, so that water, food, medicine, and essential services can enter Gaza, and so that there will be political space to offer solutions that lead us toward lasting stability and security, and ultimately toward sustainable peace.”

He warned that “Israel is talking once again about the expulsion of one million Palestinians from Gaza City to the southern part of the Strip, where more than a million people are already living in tents without any means of subsistence.”

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday called on the international community to pressure Israel into accepting the latest ceasefire proposal, during phone talks with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, and Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh, the foreign ministry said.

In his post on 𝕏 on Wednesday, Macron outlined a proposal to end the conflict, calling for a permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, “large-scale” deliveries of humanitarian assistance, the disarmament of Hamas, and the strengthening of the Palestinian Authority in Gaza.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has consistently rejected granting the PA any authority in the Gaza Strip after the war.

“To achieve this, together with Egypt, Jordan, and all our regional and international partners, we must: Deploy an international stabilization mission for Gaza; Work towards a political solution that fulfills the aspirations of both peoples, Israeli and Palestinian,” Macron added.

He also reiterated France’s intention to co-chair, alongside Saudi Arabia, a “Conference on the two-state solution” and recognize a Palestinian state in September, which has been harshly criticized by Israel, including in a letter to Macron on Tuesday.

“This is the only credible way forward – for the families of the hostages, for Israelis, and for Palestinians alike. No to war. Yes to peace and security for all,” Macron added.
