After the bodies of the elderly couple, Gadi Haggai and his wife, Judith Weinstein-Haggai, were confirmed by the IDF to have been recovered from Gaza, several sources have shared details about their lives in Kibbutz Nir Oz.

The couple first met at Kibbutz Nir Oz, where Judith fell in love with Gadi after hearing him playing the flute while she was volunteering at the kibbutz.

Gadi was described as “a gifted musician from the age of three.” His family said he had “a love for wind instruments, which he played since he was a young child.”

Gadi was also “a talented chef, and alongside his wife, Judy, he lived a healthy, active lifestyle.”

Judith was a teacher and a poet, the Jerusalem Post reported. According to the kibbutz, she wrote haikus, with her last haiku being written on Oct. 7, 2023, the day of the Hamas massacre.

“They complete each other,” the kibbutz said of the couple. “He’s a goofball, just like a little kid, always dancing and laughing, while Judy is an English teacher, taking care of children, and sharing meditation and mindfulness techniques.”

They had four children and seven grandchildren.

On Oct. 7, the couple was murdered by terrorists in the very kibbutz where they had fallen in love and spent decades building their life together.
