Saudi Arabia shoots down Houthi drown near Mecca
Saudi Arabian air defenses intercepted a Houthi drone south of Mecca Tuesday evening, according to a spokesman for the Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen.
However, a Houthi official rejected the report that it had targeted Mecca, the holiest city in Islam.
“The claims about targeting Mecca are a worn-out lie that has been used before and no longer fools anyone,” Houthi official Hazem al-Assad wrote on 𝕏.
Saudi air defenses issued security alerts for Mecca on Tuesday, but no interceptions or impacts were reported.
Houthi political bureau member Mohammed al-Farah denied targeting the city that day, calling the report of an attack "an outright lie.”
The Houthis have launched several major attacks on Saudi Arabia over the past week, as the multi-year conflict heats up.
