Israeli hostage family members continue to advocate for loved ones during Washington visit

A number of family members of hostages still held in Gaza recently traveled to Washington, D.C. in their continued efforts to advocate for the hostages’ release.
Speaking to Ynet News, Liran Berman spoke about the trip he and other relatives of hostages and former hostages made to the United States.
“Families and former hostages are constantly present, meeting American officials, reminding them of Trump’s promise,” he said.
Liran is the brother of Ziv and Gali Berman, twins who are still being held in Gaza, and are believed to be still alive.
“The feelings are very negative,” Berman said regarding efforts to release the hostages. “Last week, we were in Washington while everyone was in Doha.”
“During our visit, we learned the Israeli delegation returned home because Hamas raised obstacles,” he continued. “It breaks whatever spirit remains.”
After hostage families met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during their trip, Rubio promised his “unwavering commitment – 100% – to achieving a hostage deal that brings every hostage home and ends the fighting.”
Berman said the U.S. was optimistic a deal could be made, but criticized the deal that was supported by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
“The Witkoff deal isn’t good at all,” Berman said. “We’re here to bring back all 50; everyone matters and they should’ve been home long ago.”
In April, Berman wrote an open letter to President Donald Trump, which was published in the Washington Times.
“Soon, you will mark your first 100 days in office,” he wrote. “And those 100 days have already changed lives. You brought 33 people home. Now, I’m asking, on behalf of my family and all the families still waiting, please finish what you started.”
Ynet News also interviewed Haim Hayman, whose daughter, Inbar, is the last woman still being held hostage in Gaza.
“We’re showing we don’t know what we’re doing,” Hayman said. “We need to pressure Hamas, not send free aid while our hostages languish in tunnels. Why would Hamas negotiate if we don’t bring them to their knees?”
