Let the people go: A Passover call for freedom in Iran

Israel is about to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Passover, when Moses went to Pharaoh and said, “Let my people go.”

This year, the call is similar, but it isn’t Moses who is shouting it. It is a call to Iran: “Let the people go.”

The people of Iran need freedom. The people of Iran have been controlled by a despotic regime, but now is their time. We call on the ayatollahs and the IRGC to “Let the people go.”

“Let the women go,” so that they can choose whether to cover up or not. They should have the freedom to make that decision, not have it made or enforced upon them.

“Let the church go,” so that people can worship God in freedom, without the fear of being caught and imprisoned, so that praise and worship can ring out on the streets.

Pharaoh was stubborn, but ultimately God had His way. One ayatollah is gone, and we wait for the rest to fall.

We see that God deals with evil, wicked people. He gives them time to change their ways and repent, but ultimately, if they remain wicked, He can harden their hearts, as He did with Pharaoh. As God brings His divine discipline to the regime, He sets the people free by removing its leadership in this divine replacement.

It will be great to see a free Iran, a free Iranian people, which I believe will result in a freer Middle East. If the head of the snake is destroyed, then the body won’t be able to move. If the money is cut off, then the terror organizations won’t have rockets to fire at Israel. Hate may still remain in the heart, but there will be no weapons in the armory.

Israel and the USA are doing a great thing for the Iranian people. It is now their time to be free from tyranny. Israel knows what it is like to be in slavery. After 400 years, God led them out of slavery and into the Promised Land. May it be the same for the Iranian people—that after 47 years, they come out of this slavery into the freedom they deserve.

Israel also has the experience of the Holocaust to look back on, reminding them of the depravity of man. This is something Israel must do—for its own protection and for the Iranian people.

At this time of year, Jews clean their houses and utensils and remove any yeast from the home. Yeast is a symbol of sin that must be removed. The ayatollah, an evil and sinful man, has been removed. Now Israel must continue the task and remove all the remaining “yeast” from Iran, so that the country can shine and its people be set free.

So we say to the ayatollahs and the IRGC, just as Moses did in the book of Exodus: “Let the people go.”
