ZOHRAN MAMDANI’S REVOLUTION: A radical, socialist, Shia Muslim who horrifies Jews, accuses Israel of ‘genocide,’ and vows to arrest Netanyahu was just elected Mayor of NYC – now what?

JERUSALEM, ISRAEL — What in the world are New Yorkers thinking?

They have just elected Zohran Mamdani to be the next Mayor of the Big Apple.

Mamdani, the far-left progressive Democratic nominee, got 50.4% of the vote, while liberal Independent Andrew Cuomo got 41.6%, conservative Republican Curtis Sliwa got 7.2%, and a smattering of lesser-known candidates got the rest.

At just 34, with no governing experience, Mamdani is a self-styled radical socialist.

He’s a Shia Muslim who was born in Uganda.

He hates Israel and regularly accuses the Jewish state of engaging in genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

He has vowed to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu on the charges of war crimes the next time the Israeli Prime Minister comes to town.

He has also repeatedly called for defunding the police, though he’s tried to walk that back of late.

Now what?

Will Mamdani’s socialist policies drive corporations, small and mid-sized businesses, and banks out of Manhattan and the boroughs?

Will police officers and detectives resign or retire and move out of the city?

How will that affect the already surging crime rate?

Mamdani horrifies many Jews and critics have accused him of being anti-Semitic.

When he is sworn in, Mamdani will preside over the city with the largest Jewish population in the world (1.3 million) outside of Israel.

Will Jewish families leave New York for other parts of the U.S., or even to Israel?

All these are unknowns at the moment, but the fears are real and rising.

Here is just some of what you need to know.

MAMDANI’S SHIA MUSLIM RELIGION

“The Shia Muslim Foundation congratulates Zohran Mamdani on his decisive victory in the New York City Mayoral General Election. He is the city’s first Muslim Mayor, its first of South Asian heritage, and its youngest leader in over a century.”

MAMDANI’S STOKING JEWISH FEAR IN NEW YORK

“Over 1,000 rabbis sign anti-Mamdani letter – Over 1,000 rabbis, cantors, and yeshiva students across the US sign petition warning against (the) rise and political normalization of anti-Zionism in the New York mayoral race.” (Israel National News)

“Why Zohran Mamdani is the greatest threat to global Jewry of the 21st century – The mayoral front-runner's most insidious talent is his ability to use Jews to prove to other Jews he is not antisemitic.” (Ynet)

“Rabbi Angela Buchdahl, who leads Manhattan's Central Synagogue – among the city's most important and historic Reform congregations – delivered sharp criticism on Friday evening against Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for New York City mayor. ‘I fear living in a city and a nation where anti-Zionist rhetoric is normalized and contagious, where Israel is singularly and repeatedly called out and demonized as the worst actor on the world stage, where our children feel ashamed to call themselves Zionists, or afraid to wear Jewish symbols,’ she said.” (Israel Hayom)

MAMDANI’S ATTACKS ON ISRAEL

“In the aftermath of that day [Oct. 7, 2023], Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war: a death toll that now far exceeds 67,000; with the Israeli military bombing homes, hospitals, and schools into rubble,” continues his statement, which uses the unverified death toll provided by the Hamas-run health ministry, and does not distinguish between civilians and combatants.” (The Times of Israel)

“Mamdani, if Elected Mayor, Pledges to Order N.Y.P.D. to Arrest Netanyahu – Zohran Mamdani expanded on his vow to arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying it would show that New York ‘stands up for international law.’” (The New York Times)

“‘Let us say from this day forward we will stand in solidarity with Palestinians and we will hold every single person who has power in this city, in this state, in this country, accountable for their incomprehensible fealty to the Israeli state,’ said Mamdani, a newly minted Assemblyman representing Queens in the May 2021 video. Standing alongside pro-Hamas militants, he then leads the crowd in chants of ‘BDS, BDS’ standing for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctioning of support for Israel from other countries. Mamdani also said that America’s military aid to Israel siphons cash away from social programs at home. ‘$3.8 billion dollars every year sent from the United States to Israel…while our family here are homeless, while our family here do not have money for schools,’ he shouted.” (New York Post)

“Zohran Mamdani, the leading candidate in the New York City mayoral race, declined to say Hamas should lay down its weapons and leave the leadership in Gaza in a Wednesday interview….Asked in a Fox News interview if Hamas, a US-designated terrorist group, should ‘lay down their arms and give up leadership in Gaza,’ Mamdani declined to take a position. ‘I don’t really have opinions about the future of Hamas and Israel beyond the question of justice and safety and the fact that anything has to abide by international law and that applies to Hamas, that applies to the Israeli military,’ he said.” (Fox News)

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), with which Mamdani is closely aligned, repeatedly accuses Israel of genocide. Here is one of its recent statements: “Earlier this week the Palestinian resistance announced that a ceasefire agreement has been reached and would entail the end of this intensified stage of the genocide. This will not end Israel’s assault on the Palestinian people or the theft and occupation of Palestinian lands. A conditional ceasefire agreement does not wash the hands of the ruling class that touted their legal obligation to intervene and instead, continued to fuel and arm genocide while stoking regional war….Our role is to end U.S. complicity in Israel’s genocide and apartheid at every level – in our communities, our government, our workplaces – with every economic and political tool at our disposal….To that end, we commit to further strengthening the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions picket line by organizing the masses into campaigns like Stop Fueling Genocide!, Mask Off Maersk, and No Appetite for Apartheid while working in coalition to effectively isolate Israel economically, culturally, and academically. We will break the gears of the US imperial war machine that enables Israel and halt the flow of arms and oil to ensure our comrades may resist their oppression, cast off the occupation and with dignity, freely self-determine their future.” (DSA)

MAMDANI’S ATTACKS ON NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT

“‘We have to make clear that when the boot of the NYPD is on your neck, it’s been laced by the IDF,’ Mamdani says in the clip, from a Democratic Socialists of America convention held that year. The Israel Defense Forces, or IDF, are the armed forces of Israel.” (CNN)

“All this misery. All for money. In the last budget, the City Council tried to make the NYPD reduce its overtime budget by half. They simply refused,” he wrote in December 2020. “There is no negotiating with an institution this wicked & corrupt. Defund it. Dismantle it. End the cycle of violence.” More: “We don’t need an investigation to know that the NYPD is racist, anti-queer & a major threat to public safety. What we need is to #DefundTheNYPD,” Mamdani said in June 2020. “But your deal with @NYCMayor uses budget tricks to keep as many cops as possible on the beat. NO to fake cuts – defund the police.”….”Mamdani has since sought to distance himself from those remarks, saying he doesn’t want to defund the police and his comments were made during a time of frustration, according to CNN.” (The Hill)
