US Ambassador Huckabee: Israel has no choice but to take over Gaza City

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said on Tuesday that Israel has no other choice than to proceed with a military takeover of Gaza City, after repeated failures to negotiate a ceasefire and hostage-release deal with Hamas leadership.
Huckabee appeared on the "Piers Morgan Uncensored" program to discuss Israel’s ongoing attempts to secure a deal with the U.S.-designated terror group.
“I do know firsthand that Israel has put offer after offer on the table in negotiations, trying to get some kind of diplomatic settlement,” he said, adding that Hamas “was not interested in that.”
“You mentioned the plan to take Gaza City,” Huckabee told Morgan. “We don’t know how that’s going to go. It could go sideways. I think everybody understands there’s no guarantee that it will go well.”
The U.S. ambassador said the surrounding Arab countries have been involved in ending the war with Hamas.
“The Arab league unanimously said it’s Hamas that ought to disarm, it’s Hamas that ought to give up and recognize that they have no future, and they need to let all the hostages go…at one time,” Huckabee said.
Since Israel announced its planned military operation in Gaza, Hamas has renewed its interest in negotiations.
However, Huckabee told Morgan he sees this as a tactic to prolong the conflict. “One has to wonder, is Hamas really serious about ending this?”
Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters that Israel plans to take control of all of Gaza but does not intend to govern it. He said Israel does not want to "keep Gaza” but rather "hand it over to Arab forces that will govern it properly."
