Situation with Iran: Fuel prices, globalization, and Biblical perspective
As fuel prices have become a forefront issue and elections in both Israel and the U.S. approach, what is really happening in the situation with Iran? This is a technical writing using credible sources as references and summarizing recent events objectively, without political bias and with a Biblical perspective. The phenomenon of globalization, while people may try to deny it, is already in progress. Indeed, that is why the situation with Iran is so relevant. It is acknowledged that it is a complex situation and that there are interesting developments Biblically.
Fuel Prices
Prices for gasoline and diesel, along with crude oil as their precursor, depend on market conditions, and the markets are globalized through international trade [1]. The United States both imports and exports crude oil based on supply chain factors such as geography and infrastructure [1]. Prices have increased because of the global supply shortage from the disruption to shipping at the Strait of Hormuz [1]. For the sake of clarification, “gas” is the abbreviation of gasoline and should not be confused with “natural gas” which is a different commodity used for generating electricity and for heavy industry. Canada is the leading supplier of U.S. crude oil imports [2]. Oil from Venezuela, according to a recent agreement, will not be incoming to the U.S. until at least next year [3]. In Israel, gas prices for October are set at NIS 8.27 per liter, equivalent to $10.17 per gallon [4].
U.S. Diesel Exports
The prospect of banning U.S. diesel exports is supported by the U.S. president and some republicans, while others in the administration have warned against it. Proponents of the ban emphasize that it would lower diesel prices in the United States. Arguments against the ban are that it would cause an oversupply in the U.S. market, overall loss of business for U.S. refiners, and result in production cuts at U.S. refineries. Other concerns are further diminishing the global oil supply, and detrimental effects to U.S. allies [5]. The counterargument is that the ban would be short term, with the assumption that the situation with Iran would soon be resolved. This issue exemplifies the perceived war of nationalism versus globalization, which is a ploy to rally the people. Globalization is inevitable, the Bible tells me so, and in many ways, it is already in effect. The motto “America first” is not nationalism in the sense of anti-globalization, but rather it is American dominance at globalization.
Recent Incidents
On the evening of September 28th, he M/T Al Funtas, a very large crude carrier (VLCC) operated by Kuwait Oil Tanker Company, was struck in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire that was extinguished [6]. The tanker was in dark transit with its transponder turned off and did not report the attack, which was later reported by a third party [6]. On September 29th, the M/T Mersin Prosperity, a VLCC operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), was struck on the port side [7]. The M/T Sinbad, also a crude carrier, and the M/T Al Ruwais, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier operated by ADNOC, were also reported to be struck on the 29th [7].
Iraq Developments
The prime minister of Iraq, with persuasion from the United States, had initially set a deadline for the disarmament of Iran-backed militant groups in Iraq to September 30th, but has changed the deadline to June 30, 2027 [8]. The inference is that Iraq was unable or unwilling to enforce the original deadline. The September 30th deadline was to coincide with the withdrawal of remaining U.S. forces from Iraq. On September 30th the U.S. did complete the withdrawal [9]. Iran and its allied militant groups in Iraq construe this as a victory [9].
Recent Statements
On September 28th, the president of the United States said that if it was not for him, Israel would be wiped out right now, that there would be no Israel. Of all the statements made by the U.S. president, this is perhaps the most arrogant yet. To give the benefit of the doubt, suppose that he is woefully ignorant of what the Bible says about Israel, such as Isaiah 31:5; it is still an extremely arrogant and blasphemous statement. Otherwise, and worse yet, he was indirectly declaring himself to be God. In Isaiah 46:9 it is written: “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.”
