‘Why would you kidnap a baby?’ Senior Hamas official challenged ’We all saw what happened on Oct 7’

Hamas will not give up its fight against Israel, senior Hamas official Ghazi Hamad said in an interview with British TV personality Piers Morgan. 

Appearing on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Hamad described the disarmament deal announced recently by U.S. President Donald Trump as “an exceptional deal because of the exceptional circumstances.” 

President Trump announced the deal, which includes the disarmament of Hamas, last Thursday, calling it “a HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza.” 

Speaking to Piers Morgan, Hamad said Hamas made the agreement “in order to save our people.” 

“I think we did our best in order to save our people, to save our citizens in Gaza Strip from displacement, from mass killing, from massacres, from genocide, from all kinds of tortures,” Hamad claimed. 

However, Morgan began to push back against Hamad’s claims, after he repeatedly accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, and of deliberately killing tens of thousands of Gazan civilians. 

After Hamad claimed that Hamas did not target civilians in its Oct. 7, 2023, attacks in the southern Israeli communities of the Gaza Envelope, Morgan challenged him, noting that many of the atrocities were captured on cameras worn by the terrorists during the attacks. 

Hamad had claimed that “Hamas is [a] liberation organization; we never commit crimes, we never kill civilians, we try all the time to liberate our home.” 

“Sorry, I have to interrupt there,” Morgan interjected. “When you say you don't commit crimes and you don't kill innocent civilians, we all saw what happened on October the 7th in 2023.” 

“You had 3,000 members of your organization, Hamas, pour over the Israeli border and commit a series of despicable crimes in which you massacred innocent civilians all over Israel,” Morgan continued. “You then captured over 250 of them, including Holocaust survivors and a baby. So, the idea you've not committed crimes is ridiculous.” 

“I say 100 percent I'm confident that 100 percent we never committed crimes against civilians,” Hamad responded. “Maybe some mistake happened, but it is not the policy of Hamas.” 

Morgan pressed about the hundreds of civilians killed at the Nova music festival, as well as the house-to-house assaults in the Gaza Envelope area. 

“You shot innocent people. Hamas intentionally massacred people at a music festival. Hundreds of young people came to enjoy themselves, and that was a war crime,” Morgan said. 

Hamad again claimed that “There was no commands to kill civilians or to kill women or to kill children. I think maybe some mistakes happened.” 

When pressed further, Hamad attempted to focus attention on Israel’s conduct, falsely claiming that the Jewish State has killed “hundreds of thousands of Palestinians since 1948.” 

Morgan, who has been very critical of the IDF’s conduct in Gaza following the Oct. 7 attack, said, “For you to come on this program and say to me with a straight face that nobody in Hamas committed any crimes on October the 7th is just a brazen lie.” 

When Hamad rejected the designation of Hamas as a terror organization, Morgan asked, “Why would you kidnap a baby?” 

Morgan was apparently referring to the kidnapping of 9-month-old Kfir Bibas, who was taken hostage together with his 4-year-old brother Ariel, and his mother Shiri.

All three were murdered in captivity, shortly after their capture. Yarden Bibas, the husband of Shiri and father of Kfir and Ariel, was also abducted. He was released alive in early 2025. 

Asked later in the interview about the disarmament agreement, Hamad said that Hamas has agreed to it due to the difficult circumstances in Gaza but said the group’s “mentality” has not changed. 

“We want to continue fighting against Israel,” Hamad stated. 

“How confident are you that this deal is actually going to happen?” Morgan asked Hamad. “Is Hamas genuinely prepared to disarm, and if so, when will you start giving up your weapons?” 

Hamad refused to commit to a full Hamas disarmament, either now or under any future agreement. He claimed the terrorist group only accepted the agreement because of the “exceptional” situation in Gaza. 

“As I told you, this is an exceptional phase in Palestinian history, because of the forced necessity, because of the harsh circumstances in Gaza, we accepted this agreement,” Hamad claimed. “But I think that as Hamas, I can confirm that we didn’t change our mentality.” 

Hamad said the goal of Hamas is “to continue to end the occupation,” calling it “our holy mission.” 

He added that Hamas may use “some different tactics, some different tools, some different methods,” but made clear the group’s objective of fighting Israel remains unchanged. 

The senior Hamas leader refused to answer Morgan’s question, “Do you still believe that Israel should be annihilated?” 

Hamad instead tried to turn the question around, asking, “Why should Israel exist?” He accused Israel of genocide, apartheid, racism, “killing the international community,” and dragging the U.S. “to open war with Iran.” 

Hamad previously said that Israel should not exist, vowing to repeat the October 7 attacks. 

“The Al-Aqsa Flood [Hamas’ name for the invasion of Oct. 7, 2023] is just the first time,” Hamad said in an interview in Arabic on Oct. 24, 2023. “And there will be a second, a third, a fourth, because we have the determination, the resolve, and the capabilities to fight.” 

Asked by the Lebanese reporter in that interview, “Does that mean the annihilation of Israel?” Hamad responded, “Yes, of course.”

In an August 2025 interview, Hamad stated Hamas’ absolute refusal to surrender its weapons.  “Our weapons equal our cause,” Hamad said during the interview with Qatar’s Al Jazeera.

“Surrendering our weapons means the end of the resistance,” Hamad said at the time.
