New Iranian defense council established after 12-day war with Israel

The Iranian regime on Sunday announced the formation of a new body called the National Defense Council, established under the authority of the Supreme National Security Council, which is chaired by President Masoud Pezeshkian.
“The new defense body will review defense plans and enhance the capabilities of Iran’s armed forces in a centralized manner,” the National Security Council secretariat stated, according to a report from Reuters.
Like the Supreme National Security Council, the National Defense Council will also be chaired by the Iranian president.
The Reuters report stated that the council “consists of the heads of the three government branches, senior armed forces commanders and relevant ministries.”
The establishment of the new defense council comes in the wake of the major military losses suffered by Iran at the hands of Israel and the United States during the 12-day war.
In addition to bombing several of Iran’s nuclear facilities, Israel destroyed many of Iran’s ballistic missiles and missile launchers, as well as killing top (nuclear) scientists and military leaders.
Despite this, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei claimed victory in the war.
“I offer my congratulations on the victory over the fallacious Zionist regime,” he posted on 𝕏, adding that “the Zionist regime was practically knocked out and crushed under the blows of the Islamic Republic.”
Khamenei also warned that Iran would retaliate in the event of another attack by Israel or the United States.
“Should any aggression occur, the enemy will definitely pay a heavy price,” he said.
