Netanyahu posts political message with image of atomic bomb exploding over Tel Aviv
Dramatic post draws criticism, accusations of fear-mongering ahead of elections
Two days before Israel’s elections, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted a message to social media with an AI-generated image of a nuclear explosion over Tel Aviv.
The post was part of a message, quoting right-wing political commentator Yuval Bloomberg, stating that the election of an incapable leader could lead “to the danger of a second Holocaust.”
In the post, Netanyahu recommended his followers read a recent article by Bloomberg on the ShomerSaf website.
In that article, Bloomberg argues that the current coalition government has “proven over the past three years that it possesses the necessary courage and political capability to make the decisions required to ensure the physical existence of the State of Israel, while withstanding pressures from within and without.”
He argues that only the coalition government has the ability to confront the outstanding threats still facing Israel.
Bloomberg is also the author of a book, The Oslo Trap, which offers a critical evaluation of the 1993 accords as a failure for advancing either the peace process or improving Israel’s security.
“The State of Israel faces a real and tangible existential danger,” Netanyahu wrote in his post. “If the Iranians acquire nuclear weapons, nothing will ever be the same again. Everything is so trivial compared to the existential threat of Iran and the Shiite axis.”

“The staged and fabricated storms that crop up every so often are designed to divert attention from the one thing that matters most: completing the work in Iran,” he continued. “This touches on the physical existence of every single person here.”
The prime minister also argued that Israel only has “another two years of Trump to finish the work in Iran, and there's no telling what will come after that – whether it's Kamala Harris or some other mediocre figure.”
He argued that all other issued being raised by his opponents, “Qatar, Haredim, Urik, [Haredi] conscription, warnings,” are all “one giant smokescreen to hide the single issue that towers above everything else by a wide margin.”
“If two atomic bombs fall on central Israel, who will care about all these meaningless controversies?” Netanyahu asked.
Netanyahu’s post came days after an interview with ultra-Orthodox news site Arutz 7, in which he claimed that Iran was going to “manufacture several atom bombs to destroy Israel. The post drew criticism by political opponents and users of social media.
Opposition politician Yair Golan, head of the Democrats party, responded on social media.
“The Prime Minister of Israel published a picture of an atomic bomb over Tel Aviv,” Golan wrote. “I request to keep him away from social media networks. The man and those around him have lost it. The pressure is mounting.”
“On Tuesday, we will replace those spreading panic and restore security and sanity to Israel,” Golan concluded.
Users on 𝕏 added a community note to the post, noting that according to previous public statements by the prime minister, the Iranian threat was eliminated by Israel’s military actions in Iran.
Following the 12-day war against Iran in June 2025, Netanyahu said, “We removed two existential threats: The threat of annihilation by nuclear weapons and the threat of annihilation by 20,000 ballistic missiles. Had we not acted now, the State of Israel would have soon faced the danger of annihilation.”
And in March of this year, in a message in Hebrew, Netanyahu said, “We broke the power of Iran's terror armies that surrounded us in a stranglehold ring. That's right, they still have residual capability to threaten us, but they can no longer threaten our existence, to launch tens of thousands of ballistic missiles and rockets, intended to destroy the cities of Israel.”
Political challenger and opposition frontrunner Gadi Eisenkot accused Netanyahu of fear mongering ahead of the elections.
“Netanyahu, you’re hysterical,” Eisenkot wrote to social media. “Like in every election campaign, the same old method of lies and scare tactics again. This time – threatening Israeli citizens with mass destruction. And this after you failed to achieve the war's objectives against Iran.”
Several opposition politicians have accused Netanyahu of magnifying the threats against Israel in order to win more votes, despite simultaneously claiming to have eradicated the threats.
However, several Iranian pro-Netanyahu accounts responded by saying that only Netanyahu has demonstrated the political will to attack Iran in order to neutralize the threat to Israel.
