Israel seeks Washington’s assistance for potential Iran strike
In recent weeks Iranian proxies have attacked Israel from the south and north
The Israeli Defense Ministry-General, Maj.-Gen. (ret.) Eyal Zamir, revealed on Thursday that Israel is seeking the Biden administration’s assistance in strengthening its military for a potential strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“We held important meetings to promote significant projects focused on force buildup in the face of emerging security challenges – first and foremost, the Iranian nuclear program,” said Zamir.
The official’s announcement followed a meeting with U.S. Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl in Washington, D.C.
According to former Israeli National Security Advisor Maj-Gen. Yaakov Amidror, Israel needs to prepare for a complex war with Iran.
“We need to prepare for the war,” Amidror said during an interview with Israeli Radio 103FM. “It could be that within the next year, we would get to the point where we would have to strike Iran to stop its nuclear program.”
The ayatollah regime in Iran openly calls for Israel’s destruction. In addition to the nuclear threat it poses, Iran has invested considerable resources in building and backing a vast network of terrorist proxies, such as Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon and terror militias in Syria. Iran has increasingly coordinated attacks against Israel from various fronts.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Iranian General Esmail Qaani, the head of the elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, met with senior Hamas and Hezbollah officials in Lebanon. Following the high-level meeting in Beirut, terrorists in Lebanon fired more than 30 rockets into Israel in the largest attack since the Second Lebanon War in 2006.
In recent weeks, as well, terrorists fired rockets at Israel from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and the Syrian Golan on Israel’s northeastern border.
