Criminal organization occupies Nazereth's municipality financial activities? Police arrest top crime figures and senior officials
Following a covert investigation, police arrested senior members of the “Bakri” crime organization, businesspeople, and current and former senior officials in the Nazareth Municipality on Tuesday night, among them a former mayor.
According to the suspicion, the individuals involved transferred vast sums of money to members of the “Bakri” organization, causing severe financial harm to the city of Nazareth, which is currently in debt of approximately NIS 300 million.
“As part of the investigation, evidence was collected indicating, allegedly, that the crime organization took control of the municipality’s financial operations and caused senior employees there to take part in the mechanism of transferring funds to the organization and in money laundering,” the police said.
During the night, the Northern District Police raided several compounds associated with the crime organization and arrested senior members of the group.
Later today, and in accordance with the investigation’s findings, police are expected to request an extension of the suspects’ remand at the Nazareth–Nof HaGalil Magistrate’s Court.
