'I fell for Russian propaganda': Jewish MAGA influencer Laura Loomer reverses course after interviewing Zelenskyy in Ukraine

MAGA influencer Laura Loomer, who previously backed Russia in the war in Ukraine, interviewed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy this week during a visit to the war-torn country.

Loomer, who is Jewish, also met with Rabbi Moshe Azman in Ukraine and apologized for previously repeating the Moscow narrative that Ukraine is "full of Nazi sympathizers" and that Zelenskyy is "a self-hating Nazi Jew."

"I admit it, I fell for Russian propaganda," Loomer wrote in a social media post on Friday.

Loomer's public reversal highlights growing divisions within the American Right over Ukraine, with some influential conservative figures embracing Russian narratives while others have become more supportive of Kyiv.

The debate has increasingly overlapped with disagreements over Israel, Iran and the broader direction of U.S. foreign policy under President Donald Trump.

Loomer, who previously wrote for the Russian state-owned media outlet Russia Today and reportedly has close ties with Trump, revealed that she had "a lovely Kosher dinner" with Rabbi Azman's family.

During the interview with Zelenskyy, she asked him to explain why continued U.S. support for Ukraine is consistent with the "America First" agenda. The American Right is increasingly divided between anti-Israel influencers such as Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens and pro-Israel commentators including Ben Shapiro and Laura Loomer. The two factions have also clashed over U.S. military assistance to Ukraine.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance has taken credit for helping bring about the suspension of U.S. military aid to Ukraine earlier this year.

Vance has also made critical comments about Israel after Israeli officials expressed concerns about the U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding, which he supported.

During his first presidency, Trump signaled that he sought closer relations with Russia. However, his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly deteriorated as the war in Ukraine has continued.

While the Trump administration initially indicated it favored ending the conflict on terms largely aligned with Russian demands, Washington has recently signaled greater openness to conditions more favorable to Ukraine.

Trump and Zelenskyy are scheduled to meet at the White House next week to discuss bilateral relations and the ongoing war.

Loomer has supported the American and Israeli operations against the Islamic Republic.

During her interview with Zelenskyy, Loomer sought to establish common ground by referring to their shared Jewish identity.

"I'm Jewish, you're Jewish. We share that in common," she said.

Zelenskyy, who rarely discusses his Jewish heritage publicly, noted that Ukraine passed legislation earlier this year criminalizing antisemitism.

"It's illegal: antisemitism. We did it during my presidency," Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian leader also rejected Russian claims that Ukraine is led by Nazis. "We are not Nazis," Zelenskyy told Loomer, who appeared to accept his position.

"The Rabbi told me his dead Jewish son didn't fight alongside Nazis," Loomer wrote on 𝕏. "I can assure Americans that Jews are safer in Ukraine than they are in Mamdani's New York City!"

Most Jewish communities outside Israel have supported Ukraine during the war with Russia. Israel has also expressed support for Ukraine while stressing the need to maintain stable relations with Russia because of Moscow's influence in the Middle East.

Loomer, a staunch Trump supporter, also urged her followers to think beyond Trump's presidency.

"We won't have Trump forever," she wrote on Tuesday, "and the axis of evil is moving fast," referring to Iran and its terror proxies.
