Going after Iran’s banks: Pro-Israeli hackers launch cyberattack on crypto exchange
The pro-Israeli hacker group "Predatory Sparrow" announced on Wednesday that it had launched a cyberattack on the cryptocurrency exchange "Nobitex." According to the hackers, Nobitex is being used by the Iranian regime to finance global terrorism and circumvent international sanctions imposed on Iran.
This announcement comes just one day after the group claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on Iran’s "SAPA Bank," affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to reports from Iran, many ATMs were out of service yesterday, and there were widespread difficulties making payments via credit cards.
Regarding the attack on the crypto exchange, the hacker group is threatening to release a large amount of internal data related to Nobitex within 24 hours. According to Predatory Sparrow, the information that will be published could jeopardize many assets allegedly held by the crypto bank.
In a statement released by the pro-Israeli hacker group, the group declared, "The Nobitex exchange lies at the heart of the regime’s efforts to finance global terrorism and serves as the regime’s preferred tool for violating international sanctions."
The statement continued: "Nobitex circumvents sanctions and openly instructs users on how to use its infrastructure to do so. The regime's reliance on Nobitex is well-documented. Working at Nobitex is considered equivalent to military service, as it is deemed vital to the regime’s operations."
