US official confirms: ‘We struck Iranian units operating surface-to-air missiles against us’
The United States carried out strikes overnight Monday on Iran’s Qeshm Island as part of a series of covert operations conducted in recent weeks, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing U.S. officials.
The strikes were described as limited in scope and defensive in nature, aimed at preventing Iranian attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the report, the operations were kept out of the media to avoid being interpreted as the start of a broader military campaign and to prevent disruption of ongoing negotiations.
