Netanyahu: Report that Trump blocked Israeli strike on Iran is ‘biased and false’
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied a Financial Times report that U.S. President Donald Trump blocked a planned Israeli strike on Iran ahead of the elections, calling it “biased and false.”
According to the report, Netanyahu pressed Trump to resume military operations against Iran, partly over concerns about Tehran’s nuclear activities.
The IDF reportedly prepared a multi-day bombing campaign targeting Iranian regime, military, nuclear and energy facilities for the weekend of Oct. 10. However, the operation was allegedly canceled after Trump opposed launching a military offensive before the U.S. midterm elections on Nov. 3.
The Financial Times also reported that the planned operation would have been more intensive than the joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran in February. A senior Israeli official said the operation could have served as a “pressure tool against Iran” during negotiations, adding that any resumption of hostilities ultimately depends on Trump’s decision.
