The IDF killed a Hamas terrorist involved in the abduction of Shani Louk’s body on Oct. 7, 2023, the military announced Tuesday evening.

One of the more gruesome images from the Hamas atrocities that day was that of five Hamas terrorists riding on the back of a white pickup truck, surrounding the dead body of Shani Louk, a German-Israeli dual citizen, who had attended the Nova trance music festival.

In a joint statement, the IDF and Shin Bet called the operation “an important closing of the circle,” while pledging to continue pursuing terrorists responsible for the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre.

Shani Louk, a tattoo artist and music enthusiast, was 22 years old when she was killed and her body was kidnapped to Gaza as a war trophy by the Hamas terrorists.

According to the IDF announcement, Tamer Mohammad Ibrahim Al-Zabaq, a terror operative in Hamas’ military wing, was killed in recent days due to his work to rehabilitate Hamas’ offensive capabilities and his continued attempts to target IDF soldiers and Israeli civilians.

“Recently, the terrorist advanced attacks against Israeli civilians & IDF troops and operated to restore Hamas’ military capabilities, in systematic violation of the ceasefire,” the IDF statement said. “The terrorist was eliminated in order to remove the threat he posed.”

With the elimination of al-Zabaq, the IDF has captured or killed all known participants in Louk’s murder and abduction to Gaza.

The IDF has said that it will continue its policy of targeted killings for terrorists involved in the Oct. 7, 2023, atrocities.

The shocking image of Louk’s body, taken by AP freelance photographer Ali Mahmud, and later videos showing people beating and kicking her corpse, provoked outrage in Germany, as people began to understand the barbarity of the Hamas massacre.

Mahmud later won a picture-of-the-year award for one of the images, causing outrage, especially after his connections with Hamas’ top leadership were exposed.

While most people who saw the pictures understood that Louk was already dead, the IDF officially confirmed her death later later in the war, after Israeli soldiers entered the Strip and found remains of many of the abducted bodies. Louk’s remains were returned to Israel for burial in May 2024.

Nissim Louk, Shani’s father, welcomed the announcement of al-Zabaq’s elimination.

“For me, this is welcome news. We must never stop hunting them, and they must pay for what they did,” he said.

Despite the connection of Ali Mahmud to Hamas, Nissim Louk had defended the publication of and award for the photo of his daughter’s body as “a good thing” for helping raise awareness of what happened.

On Wednesday morning, Nissim Louk announced his exit from the Knesset elections, where he had been running as head of the right-wing Orot Hashachar [Light of the Dawn] party, instead endorsing the new People of Israel party of Ofer Winter.

Since the start of the Oct. 7 Gaza War, Louk has advocated for voluntary migration of Palestinians from Gaza, and a return of Jewish settlements to the Strip, in order to achieve security along the southern border.

Louk, who has been highly critical of the coalition government’s failure to accept responsibility for the Oct. 7 massacre, noted that Winter’s party was not involved in the government at that time as part of his reason for supporting the People of Israel party.

“Ofer Winter has a new party that was not part of the events of October 7, and I am proud to announce my support for him,” Louk said in announcing his withdrawal from elections.
