Liberman to recommend Eisenkot for prime minister, but criticizes his ‘selfish campaign’
Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman announced Monday that he would recommend Yashar! party leader Gadi Eisenkot for prime minister during consultations at the President’s Residence.
Speaking at a party faction meeting, Liberman reiterated that he would not join a government led by Benjamin Netanyahu, even under a rotating premiership arrangement. He also said he had agreed to support Yair Lapid for Knesset speaker if such a move goes ahead.
Despite backing Eisenkot, Liberman sharply criticized his election campaign, saying the change bloc’s 48 seats were far below expectations. “Eisenkot and his colleagues bear responsibility. He ran the most selfish campaign imaginable,” Liberman said.
Liberman also ruled out participating in the formation of a minority government.
