Israeli official elected to UN oversight committee for first time since 2007
An Israeli official was elected over the weekend to serve on the United Nations General Assembly’s Independent Audit Advisory Committee, receiving 134 votes in a notable achievement amid strained diplomatic relations between Israel and the international organization.
Shay Mizrahi, an attorney who heads the Division for Local Government Auditing and Political Party Financing at the State Comptroller’s Office, will serve a three-year term. He is the first Israeli to join the committee since it was established in 2007, according to a press release from the State Comptroller’s Office.
