Iran gives US conditions for re-opening Strait of Hormuz
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reportedly met with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Tuesday.
During the encounter, Araghchi gave Witkoff Iran's conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian media.
According to Iranian media, conditions for reopening the strait include the immediate lifting of the U.S. blockade of Iranian-bound vessels, immediate release of frozen Iranian assets, and the end of open hostilities across all 'resistance' fronts.
Witkoff confirmed the dialogue with the Iranians, while noting that the talks were not direct talks, but involved mediators, who carried the messages between the two sides.
“Today, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, we engaged in lengthy talks with the Iranian delegation through the mediators, who shuttled between the two sides throughout the day,” Witkoff wrote to his social media account.
