Benny Gantz withdraws from Israeli elections, vows to continue 'fight for unity'
Benny Gantz, chairman of the Blue and White party, announced his withdrawal from the upcoming elections in a short statement.
The former IDF Chief of Staff, Defense Minister and member of the war cabinet said: “I will not run in the upcoming elections—I will continue to fight for unity. This is the only solution that will prevent another disaster and protect Israel against all the challenges, both at home and abroad.”
Most recent polls had projected Blue and White to miss the election threshold. Over the past months, several senior party members had left Gantz, including current frontrunner and Yashar party leader, Gadi Eisenkot.
"Gantz will continue to focus his efforts on bringing about a unity government that will act in the interests of the State of Israel," the statement read.
