Holocaust Memorial Day 2026 - From ‘never again’ to defending Israel today
As the sirens sound across the Land of Israel on this Holocaust Memorial Day, we remember, we do not forget. Those same sirens wailed just days ago as hundreds of ballistic missiles crashed into our land from the Islamic Republic of Iran as they chanted "Death to Israel," their clearly stated intent to produce a second holocaust. As the sirens recall our memory, I remember my own family slain in Hungary by the Nazis. They had no army, no way of self defense, and went like sheep to the cruel slaughter.
We are still surrounded here on all sides by irrational hostility and murderous hatred, a tiny nation not 50 miles wide of some 8 million Jews facing a worldwide population of over 2 billion Muslims wishing our demise. Iran is some 80 times larger than Israel, making this conflict truly another David versus Goliath. At the same time international anti-Semitism has arisen again to the level not seen since the Holocaust, often in the disguise of anti-Israelism, condemned for defending our existence from the UN to the streets of New York and London and Madrid.
But today we have an effective military to defend our people. I served in the Israel Defense Force, carrying my weapon through hostile Arab territory and remembering all, and thinking along with all of Israel, "Never Again." In God we Trust.
