Awareness of the situation with Iran and beyond

The situation with Iran remains unresolved and staying informed is possible with concise, periodic updates such as this article. Attacks on commercial ships in and around the Strait of Hormuz have expanded in geographic range and in scope of ship types. The Israel-U.S. relation is an important dynamic to watch as the U.S. administration may be pressuring Israel.  Fighting continues with the Houthis against the coalition of Saudi Arabia and Saudi-backed forces in Yemen. With all the warfare that has been experienced over the past few years in the Middle East and elsewhere, there has been a general trend in increased weapons production. These developments are here discussed without political bias and with a Biblical perspective, referencing various credible sources.

Recent Incidents

On October 9th, the very large crude carrier M/T Gem No.2, was struck 13 nautical miles west of Al Jazeera, U.A.E., causing a fire that was extinguished [1]. On October 10th in the Gulf of Oman, U.S. forces struck and disabled the bulk carrier M/V Ocean Molina, which had left an Iranian port and the crew repeatedly ignored warnings to comply with the U.S. blockade [2]. Also on October 10th, the M/T Valthera was struck in the Strait of Hormuz [3]. On October 11th, the M/T Petro Dolphin was struck by a drone at the Sohar anchorage area in the Gulf of Oman, and the crew was evacuated but with two crew members missing [3]. The Sohar anchorage is where ship-to-ship transfers are known to occur [4]. Also on October 11th, the very large crude carrier Angola Prosperity was struck in the Strait of Hormuz [3]. Also on October 11th were reports of attacks on the M/T Kition M, an oil products tanker, the M/T Ever Vict, a crude carrier, and the M/T Al Maqam, a very large crude carrier owned and managed by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) [5]. Also on October 11th, the container ship M/V DP World Kaveri was struck [6]. Then on October 13th, three container ships were struck in the Strait of Hormuz, the M/V GFS Pride, the M/V GFS Gizelle, and the M/V Al Saadiyat, and one tanker, the M/T Alfonso, was also struck [7]. It is confirmed that the M/V GFS Pride has sunk, and that all crew members were safely evacuated [7]. The bulk carrier M/V Cape Dao, which was struck on September 23rd and had been evacuated, is reported to be sinking as attempted rescuing of the ship has been unsuccessful [7]. Also on October 13th, the crude tanker M/T Gol was hailed by the IRGC and subsequently reversed course in the Gulf of Oman [8].

Israel and the U.S.

Israeli security officials have recently said that the deployment of U.S. forces in the Middle East is very far from what was deployed to the region at the start of the Iran war [9]. This means that the U.S. administration either has no intention of resuming large-scale attacks, or it is a ploy for Iran to be unassuming of any attacks with what forces are readily available. It is for you to draw that conclusion. Interestingly, it has been reported that the U.S. has urged Israel to resume attacks on Iran, alone without the U.S. [10]. Israel has insisted on not attacking Iran before the Israeli elections, which are set for October 27th [10].

Houthi/Saudi Warfare

The Iran-backed Houthis have struck the international airport at Riyadh, the capital of Saudia Arabia, on October 10th and October 11th, resulting in multiple fatalities and closure of the airport [10]. Subsequently, Saudi Arabia requested immediate defense support from the U.S. [10]. As of October 12th, Houthi forces have fully surrounded the city of Taiz, as a strategic advantage over Saudi-backed forces aligned with the internationally recognized government of Yemen [4]. Saudi airstrikes have continued in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen [11]. On October 13th, Saudi Arabia struck multiple oil and fuel facilities of the Houthis, including in Sanaa, the Houthi-controlled capital of Yemen [12]. The Houthis had previously issued a warning that if Sanna were struck, there would be intensified attacks on Riyadh [13]. The Saudi-backed forces in Yemen constitute a fragmented coalition that has not been highly effective in the theater of war against the Houthis [14]. The Houthis, on the other hand, have been motivated by Iran along with their own ambitions of fighting against perceived injustice.

Defense Industry and Weapons Production

With regional threats realized in actual warfare, there has been an unprecedented demand for weapons systems.  Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), manufacturer of Arrow air defense and other military systems, has a record backlog of sales orders both domestically in Israel and internationally [15]. Lockheed Martin has agreements with the U.S. Department of Defense for quadrupling production of THAAD interceptors and tripling production of Patriot PAC-3 interceptors, pending funding approval from congress [16]. These are just two examples of the trend occurring in these times referred to as the latter days. However, there will be a momentous change at the start of the millennial kingdom. At that time, according to Isaiah 2:4 and Micah 4:3, “They shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.” Though ancient terminology is used, the gist is the same. As swords and spears were metal weapons, contemporary weapons in various forms still use metals. The word “beat” in Hebrew means to crush by beating to pieces. Instead of a blacksmith forging tools by beating metals into shape, the action is more appropriately likened to that of contemporary crushing equipment used in large-scale recycling operations. Metal objects are so thoroughly crushed into pieces that they can be readily melted, refined, and completely reformed for an entirely different purpose. The implication is that needs will drastically shift from weapons to horticultural tools. That is the kind of change that only the Lord Jesus can bring.
