Anti-Zion = Anti-God

Have you noticed that the term “Israel” has mysteriously been replaced by the word “Zion” ever since the October 7th massacre? Was it accidental?

Most everyone knows that, ever since the end of WWII, antisemitism has not been an acceptable bigotry, as it came to represent a very dark ethnic and religious hatred, mostly associated with the Nazis.

So, for that bias to, once again, emerge, as a viable option, it required a rebrand.  In the very same way that modern-day vocabulary has been carefully adapted, to better align with new Woke ideologies, similarly, prejudicial terms have also had to undergo their own metamorphosis.

Towards that effort, the slur “Zionists” was unearthed.  Ironically, it’s not a new identity, and it’s a word that’s mentioned over 150 times in the scriptures. So, what exactly is Zion and why is it now considered to be a loathsome label, worthy of scorn?

From a Biblical standpoint, Zion represents many things:

  • The city of Jerusalem

  • The whole of Israel

  • The place from where the gathering of exiles takes place, along with its restoration, and, perhaps, most importantly

  • The place where God lives and His presence is to be found.

Given those definitions, it’s simple to deduce that anyone who is against Zion is also against God. Because if the very thought of God, taking up residence in Israel (Zion) is offensive to them, then it can only mean that God is an unwelcomed and objectionable image to those for whom the word represents a great abhorrence.

We are endlessly told that to be a Zionist (one who is in favor of Zion), is to display a forbidden intolerance which represents bigotry and injustice. Sadly, it’s gotten to the point where the false and newly-invented definition has been repeated so many times, that young people, especially, have come to equate Zionism with dreaded racism.

This lie, although effective in accomplishing its goal of a libelous smear, is just another strategy in the war chest of those who are anti-God and resent reliance upon faith, as an anchor, by which many of us choose to live our lives.

The truth is that a global battle has been taking place, with the objective of ruling out God as an essential component. It started the moment that the first couple, Adam and Eve, decided to reject their Maker and choose their own way. Ever since that time, each individual has had to make their own personal decision as to whether they are going to rely upon God, as their Creator and Supreme Being, or go it alone.

For those who choose the latter, either based on their erroneous belief that they know better, or just as an act of rebellion to the acquiescence that we need a greater power to direct our lives, their conclusion is that they can manage on their own.

In fact, it is this arrogant assertion which was responsible for the highly controversial statement, made by former U.S. President Barak Obama, who identified people of faith as “the bitter ones who cling to their guns and religion,” a reference he made to working-class voters from small towns. That characterization was a clear rejection of God, faith in Him or the recognition of our own human limitations and capabilities.

If you take that to the next level, anyone who declines belief in the Almighty would also rebuff the contention that He has chosen a land and a people who would be the ones to embody and demonstrate His laws, commandments and instruction.

It would further explain how such a people and homeland would be shunned and regarded as an outcast. Because the claim, that only a few select would be singled out to bring needed enlightenment and correction to a dark world, is truly galling if you believe that such things are unwarranted.

In many ways, it’s understandable, though, because acknowledging the need for repair of one’s soul is the admission that we are prone to evil inclinations. It also reveals the corrupt nature which we all possess from the moment we are born. So, it shines a vast spotlight on our failings and contradicts the humanistic notion that we have the capability to fix ourselves.

Perhaps, that is the real objection behind the word Zion or Zionist.  It could also be the reason why Zionism, the desire to live in a homeland which boasts the presence of God, is also held with disdain.

Of course, not everyone who immigrates to Israel has an awareness that they are moving to the residence of the Almighty. For many, it’s just coming home to the land of their ancestors, but not necessarily connected to anything spiritual.

However, what we are seeing today, by way of the pent-up rage and extreme resistance to the words “Zion,” “Zionist” and “Zionism,” would indicate that the exaggerated visceral reaction is somehow a deep subconscious response which touches a spiritual nerve that the anti-God crowd refuses to acknowledge.

How else can anyone explain it, especially when the words represent such positive attributes as holiness, restoration, wholeness, return and the presence of a loving God?

These are the elements being fought and rejected by a segment of the creation who thinks they’re better off by following their own choices and standards. But what are the fruits of the anti-Zionists who display anger, a propensity towards violence and a complete intolerance towards the legacy and history of the Jewish people?

For now, they have enjoined themselves to hardened terrorists, whose goal is to rid the Middle East of all Jews, followed by killing the ones who live abroad and then taking the fight to other people of faith. Ironically, what is lost on them is that the Islamic terrorists, whom they support, are also dedicated to religion – just one based on an ideology of murder.

The choice between good or evil couldn’t be clearer, but when you’re committed to going it alone, allegiances often fall on the side of evil.

Zion is the ultimate place each of us are meant to experience – even if it is not the actual geographic homeland, because Zion is so much more than a piece of land. It is the inner place we enter when we finally acknowledge that, without God, we are only empty, angry beings who don’t see the benefit of divine protection or the great love He has waiting for all of His creation.
