As an increasing number of airlines reopen flights to and from Israel, Ben Gurion International Airport has announced it will open a new departure hall.

The hall, which will have 22 check-in counters, is set to open in Terminal 3 on August 14.

In a statement published by Ynet News, the Israel Airports Authority said opening the hall was justified despite limited air traffic.

“There is a clear operational justification for the expansion, which has already been postponed twice due to the war,” the statement said. “With airlines returning at a steady pace and passenger traffic expected to reach 1.9 million this August—and more airlines planning to resume flights soon.

Major airlines that have resumed operations in Israel include Air France, flydubai, Etihad Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and others, Ynet News reported.

Lufthansa, United Airlines, KLM, and others have announced they plan to return in the next couple of months.

While the Israel Airports Authority noted only that “some low-cost carriers like Ryanair and easyJet have not yet returned,” other major airlines have similarly failed to announce plans to resume flights.

These include Delta Air Lines, British Airways, Air India, Air Canada and more.

While international flights have not returned to normal levels, they have have returned faster than was widely expected.

“At least 120 new flights have been added to Ben Gurion Airport’s departures and arrivals board in August in the past few days after many foreign airlines have announced the resumption of Tel Aviv flights earlier than expected,” the Jerusalem Post reported on Sunday.
