For Karen and Gordon Beattie, standing with Israel is not simply a matter of political conviction. It is a spiritual calling that shapes their ministry with the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ) in the United Kingdom.

In an interview with Christian journalist Paul Calvert, they discuss prayer, Britain’s changing spiritual landscape, the church’s relationship with Israel, and the growing challenges faced by Christians who openly support the Jewish state.

The Beatties coordinate prayer activities across the UK, including Rosh Chodesh prayer calls, global prayer gatherings, prayer days and their twice-weekly “Battle for Britain” meetings.

Gordon describes the urgency behind their commitment to prayer, warning that Britain is facing profound challenges and that Christians need to recognize the seriousness of the moment.

Karen also speaks about reports of extraordinary protection in Israel that she hears through daily prayer connections with Jerusalem. For her, those accounts reinforce the importance of continuing to pray for Israel and its people. She also shares how the story of a hostage who encountered God while being held in the tunnels deeply affected her.

The Beatties explained that their concern extends beyond current events to what they see as a deeper issue within Christianity: a loss of understanding of the church’s biblical connection to Israel. Gordon argues that Christians need to rediscover their roots in the God of Israel and understand their connection to the “olive tree.”

The couple also describes a growing openness between Christians and members of the Jewish community. Karen says that Jewish people are increasingly approaching them and asking to participate in their meetings, creating opportunities for Christians to express their support, friendship and prayers.

At the same time, standing with Israel has brought isolation. Karen explains that relationships with churches have changed, particularly since October 7, and that some believers have distanced themselves from the couple and their work. Yet she remains resolute: “But we've got to keep the Lord happy. We've got to please the Lord. And that's why we're standing firm with Israel.”

Looking ahead, the Beatties said they are praying for both Israel and Great Britain to turn toward God. Their hope is that Christians will respond to the present moment not with silence, but through prayer, biblical understanding and practical solidarity with Israel.

The couple offers a deeper look at why they believe the church must rediscover its connection with Israel – and why, despite opposition and isolation, they remain committed to standing with the Jewish people and praying for the nations.
