PM Netanyahu holds discussion over wave of 'Palestinian state' recognitions, Minister Ben Gvir reportedly not invited
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held talks on the preparations by several countries around the world to declare their recognition of a Palestinian state, Kan News reported on Monday evening.
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar expressed support for closing the French consulate in Jerusalem, as well as for diplomatic sanctions against countries that recognize a Palestinian state.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich is demanding the application of sovereignty in Judea and Samaria as a declarative step, alongside dismantling the Palestinian Authority – a move opposed by security officials.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir was excluded from the discussion and sent an angry message: “They don’t want to hear my criticism.”
Last month, Kan News reported that, following Britain and France’s declarations of intent to recognize a Palestinian state, Israel is preparing for additional countries to follow suit.
When France and Saudi Arabia host a UN conference in New York this September, several countries – including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Finland, Luxembourg, Portugal, and San Marino – are expected to signal support for recognizing a Palestinian state, following the lead of Spain, Ireland, Malta, and Norway.
