JERUSALEM, ISRAEL – Evangelical Christians and Israelis are waking up to a dangerous and deeply disturbing reality.

Pro-Israel voices in Congress have just experienced catastrophic losses.

Anti-Israel forces have just won outright and decisive control of Congress.

President Donald Trump is now a lame duck going into the last two years of his presidency.

And even though Trump has been beloved here for being the most pro-Israel president in American history, his poll numbers are about to plummet precipitously.

Why?

Because on Tuesday morning, just as polls were opening all across the United States, Trump cut Israel loose.

TRUMP SHOCKS ISRAELIS BY ENDING ALL MILITARY AID

He unilaterally declared that he will end the investment of all U.S. military aid to Israel by the end of this year.

No Israelis saw this coming.

No Evangelical Christians saw this coming.

Not yesterday.

Not even this year.

Yes, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu has said over the past year that it is time to phase out dependence on American aid.

But no one said anything about a sudden and completely unexpected end to every dime of such aid by the end of this calendar year.

That's the end of nearly $4 billion in annual American investments before the threats posed by Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis are completely eliminated.

TRUMP'S MOVE VIOLATES TWO KEY AGREEMENTS WITH ISRAEL

Trump's move is also an abrogation of the U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that commits to American funding of Israel's military through September 2028.

It's also a breach of the Camp David Accords of 1979, in which the U.S. promised annual military investment in Israel if the Jewish state would make peace with Egypt and surrender the Sinai Desert to Egypt, the key defensive buffer between the two countries and 90% of the land that Israel won in the Six-Day War of 1967.

Did Trump also announce that he was ending all U.S. foreign aid to Egypt?

To Jordan?

To Turkey?

To other Arab and Muslim countries in the Middle East?

No.

Just to Israel.

Nearly all of U.S. military aid to Israel is spent inside the U.S., creating and sustaining American jobs for workers who build advanced weapons systems as well as missile interceptors and ammunition that Israel has so urgently needed since the October 7 war began.

To be clear, I'm not saying Trump has completely abandoned Israel.

Of course not.

But his unilateral and preemptive move to end all aid to Israel – and to announce it on the morning of the elections – is devastating to Israelis.

It will also embolden Israel's enemies, particularly what's left of the Iranian regime.

PRO-ISRAEL MAJORITY WIPED OUT IN THE HOUSE AND SENATE

It was a devastating night for the pro-Israel majority in Congress.

  • Democrats will now take control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate – not all Democrats are anti-Israel, but the party has been increasingly hostile to the Jewish state and the Jewish people and with Democrats in control, the bitterly anti-Israel voices of far-left progressive members, including "The Squad" (AOC, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, etc.), will have vastly more power and influence.

  • The most catastrophic development of the night was that Abdul El-Sayed – the most anti-Israel, antisemitic, pro-radical Islamist Senate candidate in American history – won the Michigan Senate race. With 88% of the votes counted, Democrat El-Sayed had 51.8% while the pro-Israel Republican, Mike Rogers, had only 46.2% of the vote. El-Sayed is the first Muslim ever elected to the U.S. Senate and his victory will further radicalize and energize anti-Israel voices in Washington and nationwide.

  • Darline Graham Nordone – the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham – arguably the strongest advocate of the U.S.-Israeli alliance in the Senate – lost to Democrat Annie Andrews, making Andrews the first Democrat to win a Senate race in South Carolina in 30 years.

  • Ken Paxton lost in Texas to Democrat James Talarico, making Talarico the first Democrat to win a Senate race in Texas in almost 40 years.

  • Roger Marshall lost in Kansas to Democrat Adam Hamilton, making Hamilton the first Democrat to win a Kansas Senate seat since 1932.

  • Moderate Republican Susan Collins, generally a friend of Israel, lost her Senate seat in Maine to Troy Jackson, the last-minute replacement for Graham Platner, the Israel-hating Democrat who had a Nazi symbol tattooed on his chest.

  • The Iowa Senate seat held by retiring Republican Joni Ernst – who was staunchly pro-Israel – was lost to Democratic State Rep. Josh Turek, making him the first Democrat to win an Iowa Senate race in 16 years.
