‘We will not allow others to define Zionism’: Jewish diaspora leaders unite in declaration
On the eve of the Jewish New Year, diaspora leaders issued a unified declaration on Zionism and antisemitism at the J50 Forum, the Israeli Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.
The forum, which brought together Jewish leadership from 50 major Jewish communities worldwide, addressed the “delegitimization and distortion” of Zionism in academic, political, and cultural spheres, which it said serves to “marginalize and exclude Jews.”
Defining Zionism as “the national movement of the Jewish people and the expression of our right to self-determination in our ancient homeland, Israel,” the statement said it is “deeply rooted in Jewish history and tradition.”
It described as antisemitic the manifestations of anti-Zionism that seek to deny Jews their right to self-determination or demand that Jews renounce Zionism to participate in political, academic, professional, or cultural life.
“Zionism is part of Jewish identity. We will not allow others to define it for us.”
