Syrian President Al-Sharaa: Oct. 7 should not dictate Israel’s Syria policy

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa said he understands what happened in Israel on Oct. 7 but argued that it is “not logical” for the attack to dictate Israeli policy toward Syria.
Speaking at an Atlantic Council event on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, al-Sharaa said Israel is trying to maintain its security by “creating problems around it,” but argued that the approach is not working and that Israel should change its policy.
Al-Sharaa also said Israel and Syria had previously come very close to reaching a political arrangement, but that Israel ultimately chose to withdraw.
