Plane hijacking scare: Israel scrambles fighter jets before plane lands safely in Saudi Arabia, gives all-clear
An emergency signal sent from a flydubai plane en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv raised worries that the plane was hijacked, before it landed safely in Saudi Arabia some half an hour later.
Israeli media reported that the apparent reason for the incident was a violent altercation between the pilots, and that all 180 passengers are safe.
The plan had sent a “squawk code” of 7700, an international emergency signal, while turning around above the Saudi desert, raising fears it had been hijacked by terrorists.
Israeli fighter jets were reportedly scrambled toward the plane while the prime minister and defense minister convened emergency consultations.
